Department of Education ,Lakhimpur kendriya mahavidyalaya

The Department of Education, Lakhimpur Kendriya Mahavidyalaya was established in the year 1992. Initially there was no Major (Honours) course in this department. The Major (Honours) course   was introduced in the year 1999. Now the department has a reputed position in the Dibrugarh University. The students, though they are coming from rural and poor academic background, have secured top positions in the under graduate level. In last five years a good number of students secured 1st class from the department in BA final examination under Dibrugarh University.

MISSION:

      The mission of the department is to impart quality education to the students enabling them to serve the community around and the nation. The department emphasises in developing students’ analytical abilities, life skills, sense of morality and critical thinking so as to prepare them for the future.

VISION:

1. Develop students as a sensitive and competent citizen who can contribute to the development of         the society as well as nation.

2. Develop the students to meet the challenges.

3. Establish the department as a centre of excellence.

4. By different project works, give exposure to the students.

5. Develop awareness on relevant socio-cultural issues.

OUR FAMILY:

History of the Faculty:

             Mrs Lakhbir Kaur Behra was the first teaching faculty who joined in 1992 in the department of Education, Lakhimpur  Kendrya  Mahavidyalaya. After   that Dr Mrinali Goswami Puzari joined in this department in 1993. Due to personal reason Mrs Lakhbir Kaur Behra was left this college in 1994 and then Dr Jahnabee  Lahkar Baruah joined  this department in 1994. In 1999 the major course in education was started and Dr Sirajun Nahar Begum was appointed as a faculty member in this department in the year of 2000. In the year of 2021 Dr Jahnabee Lahkar Baruah was appointed as a Principal of the UMK College , Majuli, joined the same as Term Post Principal. So the post is still vacant for the next term. All the teachers have been working in the department with full co-operation and understanding.

Learning Resources of the Departments: Library,Computer and other resources:

  The department has a small library with around three hundred books open for the needy students. The department has also a computer for maintaining departmental records. The departmental laboratories with necessary instruments cater the needs of the students as required by course curriculum.

Modern Teaching Methods and use of ICT in Teaching-Learning :

College has a smart classroom with interactive  board that we use occasionally, especially  during the students seminar session of the students.. The department also arranges seminars and group discussions among the students from time to time.

Departmental Actvities:

1. Department of education undertakes field study in the locality every year with financial aid from the college authority and the students prepare project report on their findings.  The department publishes a wall magazine, namely “Jnandeep”’ annually. The wall magazine of the department often shines in the inter departmental wall magazine contest held annually on 5^th September.

2. The department publishes a bulletin, namely ‘ Aadhar’.  The college authority provides financial assistance  for publication.

3. Department organises popular talks on curricular related topics to encourage the students.

4. Moreover the department organises different programmes on some special days, like Women’s’ Day, Children Day, World Literacy Day , Teachers’ Day etc.

5. The department has its forum called “Educational  Forum” consisting of students of the department. By the activities of this forum students acquire organizational skills, leadership qualities and financial management. The forum organises departmental freshers and departmental farewell ceremony, Teachers’ Day etc. The department presents the best freshers awards annually in departmental freshers.

6. Under the guidance of teacher of the department, students participate in various activities of the College Week. Education department was adjudged as the” Best Department” for two consecutive years  2019-20 and 2021-22.

Achievements of the Departments:

1. A good number of students of the department proceed to higher study each year after graduation.

2. Alumni of the department have cleared NET, TET Examination etc.

3.  Some of the alumni of the department are placed in both public and private sectors.

4. Being located in rural area the quality of input students of the department is mostly poor. But the academic achievements of the outgoing students are usually improved in comparison to their poor background.

Plan of action of the department for the next five years:

1. To organize National and International workshop and seminar.

2. To introduce new innovative academic programmes relevant to the needs of the society and the students.

3. Plan to strengthen the in-house research work.

4. To arrange Popular Talks by renowned personality.

5. Extension Activities related to emerging issues with involvement of Alumni Association.
